There is an opinion in the business community that it is easy and profitable to organize deliveries from China. It is enough to find the goods you need on Alibaba or 1688, order them and wait for delivery. In practice, however, this path is strewn with many pitfalls, which are rarely mentioned at the initial stages.
When I decided to set up deliveries on my own, things started out quite optimistically. Easy negotiations with the factory through my manager, attractive prices, promises of quality.
But at the prepayment stage, it became clear that Chinese suppliers require special attention to detail: incorrect payment slips or the slightest mistake in the name of the company can lead to the payment being blocked.
It got worse: it turned out that the supplier I had chosen did not have all the necessary certificates for customs clearance in the UAE. Correcting the situation required a lot of nerves, correspondence and additional expenses.
And after receiving the shipment, some of the products did not match the stated description at all. The factory claimed that everything was "as agreed", but it was almost impossible to prove their case remotely.
These mistakes cost me lost time, money and my partner's reputation.
After that, I realized that without specialists who understand the specifics of working with China and the UAE, you will not get far.
I started looking for a company that could take on the full support of deals: from finding factories to delivery to Dubai. In the end, I settled on a firm with real offices in China and the UAE.
I was very pleased with their approach: before any action, they consulted me, explained the risks, and offered alternatives. At the purchasing stage, they offered me several factories with different conditions, and then organized an inspection of the goods before shipment.
The organization of logistics deserves special attention: all the cargo was insured, correctly registered for customs, and managers were always in touch, giving the latest information on the movement of the container.
My conclusions after my experience of working with professionals:
Independent purchasing is suitable for very simple goods in small quantities. For serious shipments, an on-site team is needed.
Factory inspection before payment is a must.
Professional paperwork saves time and money.
A good intermediary in China is not an expense, but an investment in business security.
Now I am expanding my product line and I am confident in every step of the work. There are no more mistakes like at the beginning of the journey.
