The First Annual Amun Re World Cup 2008 Team Doubles Tournament

The Singles tournament is a mere warm-up. The actual impetus for the World Cup idea was to attempt a different format for team play in 4-player games, so here it is – and it’s so crazy, it just might work!

Each Team has been split into pairs (based on seeding, so that the #1 and #4 players have been matched up as Pair A, and the #2 and #3 players have been matched up as Pair B).

Each Pair will play one game round-robin style vs the same level pair from the 3 other teams in their Division.

That makes a total of 3 games per Player, 6 games per team and 60 (!!!) Round 1 games in all.

Scoring is as follows:

First Place: 2 goals (not 3)
Second Place: 1 goal
Third Place: 1 goal
Fourth Place: Nil

The winning team will be the one that scores the most goals - thus, to win the game, neither member of a pair can finish in fourth place. If the game ends with Team X in first & fourth and Team Y in second & third, it is scored as a 2-all tie! In the unlikely event that a game ends in an actual tie per the rules, the top 2 players will each score 2 goals (3rd place will still score only 1 and fourth place Nil).

For purposes of advancement, teams will be awarded 3 Points for a win and 1 Point for a tie.

The Top 8 Teams in Advancement Points (the Winner of each Division plus 3 "Wild Cards") will send one pair of players to a Bracket-style Playoffs (Quarter Finals -> Semi-Finals -> Final Game).

Tie breakers for Advancement will be (in this order):
- Total Goals scored by all players from that Team in their 6 Round 1 games
- Total in-game points scored by all players from that Team in their 6 Round 1 games
- Total pyramids/stones built by all players from that Team in their 6 Round 1 games

Other Rules:
1. Communicating with teammates via PM is allowed (mostly because it cannot be prevented). However, Bonus Machismo Points will be awarded to Players who use the in-game Messages instead.
2. In the event a game becomes Abandoned, the three non-abandoning players will be awarded 1 goal each.

A note on timing:
We are entering the long hot summer: Holidays and vacations plans will mean that many players will be out of town for long stretches of time. Please be diligent about marking yourself as “Away” when traveling. My expectation is that these games will take some time to complete, but please do your best to keep them moving.

Yeah, it didn't mini-size to great, but that's the "Don't Tread on Me" flag - something that represented the great tradition of Ethan Allen and Green Mountain Boys.

Feel free to post something you prefer and I'll make the updates.

Well now that you explain that, it makes perfect sense. Cool (except for the fact that that's Vermont...but definitely better than anything I came up with...lol)

You know, I'm starting to think I might just leave those black sqaures there, I'm only going to be disappointed.... or just plain dumbfounded, lol. Maybe in a month if the tourney drags on I'll build up the curiosity. Wink

A number of games have not yet been created, and a number of teams have not joined all their games.

Team New York is particularly notable for being almost completely absent - much as they are in the MLB right now.

Notices have been sent - some people may be away on holiday. If you are about to leave town, please at least create/join your games first.

Thanks again!

Personally, I think Team New York should be given a severe whipping with a wet noodle for holding up the games or least verbally taunted by the collective members of the tournament Twisted Evil

JimF has decided not to play, so Team Lancaster is short a player.

If you know a player willing to take the spot on that team (residency north of the Watford Gap is not a requirement) please send me a pm.

Thanks!

Team Lancaster is back to its original strength, and thanks to JimF for joining his games. Thanks also to Mongo and Gische for responding to the distress signal.

And we have our first result in, so grats to Team Canadia for winning the First Battle of Lake Erie!
