Yes you're right, those turns where you have no power cards at all could be skipped. But the programming required to do so, whilst not exactly complex, is better spent implementing new games rather than on a somewhat insignificant speed up. It's Play By Web after all, taking 1 or 2 player turns out of game isn't going to affect the average length of a game in real terms by much at all.
PS Sorry if my earlier post was rude sounding. Hope to see you in a game of Amun Re some time! |

Sorry to necro this thread, but I shall nonetheless
I don't see why the income phase can't be handled like the sacrifice... simultaneous, with actual actions hidden until all players have acted.
In a 5 player game, that could save a LOT of silly downtime, especially in round 1. |

I was very much NOT talking about automation. There are many circumstances where automation would reveal the contents of your cards, and that could certainly be an issue.
What I was talking about of course was timing. Currently, it is sequential. My proposal was to make it simultaneous, like the sacrifice bidding. It is stunningly annoying in a 5 player game to have to wait for each person to be online to click on "yeah, that's my income". It can certainly be done all at once, and revealed at the end.
Are there situations where income generation choices will depend on what others do? Of course, but I don't think it is anything close to worth stalling the game over.
My current emotions:
1) Province Auction: excitement! Even if it is not my turn, I am curious to see what others will do.
2) Resource Buying: not exciting (unless there is a pyramid battle), but important.
3) Sacrifice: Exciting!
4) Adjust sacrifce: sorta exciting, unless the adjustment cannot possibly change the nile level, in which case it is the most annoying thing possible.
5) Collect stuff: not that exciting, but must be done
6) Income: Mind-numbing, generally couldn't care less about what others do, since I my decisions in that phase are mostly based on myself.
^
!-------- This is the phase that should be simultaneous instead of consecutive.
The point is, I would like to spend more time playing "fun" parts of the game, rather than "boring" parts of the game. That is all!
Imagine a game where every time you logged on you had to make a difficult province auction or sacrifice decision! Yikes! Fun! |
