When you hear the name Geometry Dash, you're undoubtedly reminded of the nightmares you had while playing it. It's definitely one of the most vexing games ever released for the iPhone. Despite this, you wanted to play it.

It's understandable that you don't hear much about the game nowadays. Not only has it been out for a little over 6 years, but it has also spawned a number of newer spin-offs. The famed Getting Over It is now an even more popular and frustrating game on the App Store. So, is Geometry Dash still worth playing in 2019? Should you attempt one of the other games that will provide you with the same level of irritation and emotional distress? On today's throwback review, we'll discover out.

Geometry Dash is a platforming game created by Robert Topala of Sweden and marketed by his own business, RobTop Games. There is no narrative or purpose for you to play the game. As soon as you enter, you can choose from a variety of levels to begin your pain, er, journey to the game's conclusion.

Each level has its own difficulty, which increases as you progress. Almost everything in a level has the potential to kill you, and if it does, you must restart from the beginning, regardless of how close you were to completing the level. However, there is a practice option where you can play the same level with checkpoints to make the actual level easier to beat.

There are three golden coins on each level. Getting them is a different task because you'll have to figure out how to get them the other way. At the end of your run, you'll need the coins to unlock extra, difficult stages. Aside from the coins, you can unlock other goodies such as colors and skins for your characters as you progress through the game. Great! More reasons for me to keep playing this game.

The graphics of the game are still good today, owing to their simplicity. Geometry Dash's name comes from the fact that they're basically a series of shapes. The music is where the game really excels. Every level includes a unique song that makes you want to keep playing only to hear it again and again. Of course, if you're only interested in the music, the game includes YouTube links for each song.

Geometry Dash is a rhythm-based game, thus your movements should match the beats of the music. Fortunately, it is made possible by some excellent gameplay. You control your character by tapping on the screen, and it's up to you to make the perfect taps to avoid dying. The game is rather responsive, so whether you're jumping or riding a rocket, you'll know that if you die, it's your fault, not the game's.

Of course, your character's speed, combined with all of the obstacles in a level, makes winning a level difficult. Even if the controls are excellent, beating just one level takes time and patience.

You can make your own levels if you finish all of the game's levels, or if you're like me and just want to quit. There's a level editor option that allows you to create the most difficult levels you can think of, assuming you can beat them. You can also play levels created by other users.

There are also daily and weekly levels that are recommended to you, as well as worldwide scores that allow you to compete with other individuals and your friends.

Geometry Dash is still as entertaining and infuriating as ever. In 2019, you should play this game. It's entertaining, addictive, and filled with enough items to keep you playing for a long time if you're patient. Geometry Dash is available on the App Store for $1.99. If you're not sure if this is the game for you, you may try out the Lite version.
